Powdery mildew or ash is an endemic disease in Rioja that may damage the vineyard considerably. This forces the application of preventive phytosanitary treatments that have an economic cost and environmental implications.
El objetivo es desarrollar una herramienta práctica que permita a los viticultores tomar las mejores decisiones para practicar una agricultura más sostenible y rentable al reducir la aplicación de productos fitosanitarios.
The project has been promoted by Grupo Rioja with the participation of Bodegas Ramón Bilbao, Bodegas Del Medievo, Bodegas Patrocinio, Bodegas Aradón, The Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of La Rioja (FECOAR), Agroclimatic Information Service of La Rioja, The Institute of Sciences of Vine and Wine (ICVV) and Encore Lab. It is a project cofunded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment, the Rural Development Program (PDR) from the Rioja Government and the FEADER (Fondo Europeo Agrícola de Desarrollo Rural).
The land parcels will be controlled through geographic information systems (SIG) and CESENS technology, a crop monitoring system with integrated field sensors in their own agro climatic stations. In addition, the technicians will make three visits per month to monitor the crops.
